About Lianka 

Lianka Papakammenou studied Architectural Engineering at the National Technical University of Athens. In 2007 she registered as a fully qualified architect in Greece by the Technical Chamber and she established pkv.design & engineering company. In 2007 she studied the MSc in Light & Lighting at the Bartlett Graduate School, at University College London (UCL), specializing in natural and artificial lighting design in architecture. In 2008 she enrolled for a PhD degree at the Bartlett, UCL. Her research topic was about luminous forms in architectural design. Following the completion of her PHD in 2013, she is also actively involved in academia, researching into topics that explore architectural and lighting design as unified fields, with the aim to combine academic research and practice using artificial light as an architectural form. In 2010 she won the prestigious award Young Lighter of the Year from the Society of Light & Lighting (SLL) and the Best Presenter award from the Worshipful Company of Lightmongers. She has been recently included in the prestigious ‘40 under 40’ list of world’s lighting young talents (lighting design awards 2016, lightingmagazine.co.uk, United Kingdom). She has worked as an architect and lighting designer in UK, Greece, USA, France and Singapore. Her experience in both architecture and lighting spans across different companies and a broad range of projects, which amongst other include leisure projects in the USA and Singapore (Aivalis Architects, Weijenberg), commercial projects in Bahrain, Egypt and Lebanon (SEAM Design) high end residences in Barbados, NYC and in Greece (Isometrix, pkv) and art installations in the United Kingdom (Tate Modern) and Italy (XXI Triennale 2016). Lianka has a strong interest for architecture, art and lighting which is often a point of inspiration for her design work.
